STOP.
Before you hire a family photographer, read this.
Not all photographers are the same.
Some chase perfection.
I chase connection.
I’m not going to line you up, fix your hair and tell your kids to smile on three.
That’s not real life and real life is exactly what I want you to remember.
Because when the wrong person photographs your family, you feel it.
The kids feel it.
The horror stories I have heard when someone has chosen that cheap and cheerful photographer....and ended up with either an experience or photographs that have broken their heart.
You end up with stiff smiles, awkward energy and photos that could be anyone’s and actually look like everyone's...
And you deserve better than “anyone’s.”
I spent years working with children before I ever thought to charge for my photography.
Classrooms, playgrounds, tears, triumphs - it all taught me how to read the room, not control it.
So when I photograph your family, I’m not judging behaviour.
I’m translating it.
I may not be the most avant-garde artist on the planet,
but when your toddler melts down mid-shoot and your partner is sighing in the background,
that’s when I do my best work. I've got you, I work with the mood and I work with you to shift into that beautiful space!
That’s where the truth lives.
Here’s what you should know before you book anyone....me or anyone else.
Posed vs. Lifestyle — What’s the Difference?
Posed photos are beautiful in their own way. They’re tidy, predictable, everyone looks at the camera.
But life with kids? It’s rarely tidy.
Lifestyle photography (what I do) is about letting the mess breathe a little.
It’s hugs mid-laugh, wind-blown hair, the way your child clings to you even when you’re both giggling.
It’s not chaos; it’s connection.
If you’re the kind of family who values feeling over formality, that’s where you’ll feel at home.
How Long Does a Session Take?
About an hour. Long enough for everyone to settle in, short enough to keep energy high.
If your child needs a snack break or a cuddle, we pause.
I follow their lead because the best photos happen when kids feel safe, not managed.
What Should We Wear?
You don’t need to match - actually I recommend that you don't - you just need to belong.
Wear what feels good.
Flowing dresses, bare feet, soft textures, colours that feel like your home.
When you book, I send you a simple style guide full of examples from real sessions.
No Pinterest pressure, no shopping spree required.
Where Do We Shoot?
Where you actually live your life.
For some families, that’s your lounge room at 9 a.m. with coffee cups on the table.
For others, it’s the beach at golden hour or a favourite bush track on the Tweed Coast.
I photograph across Tweed Heads, the Gold Coast, and Northern NSW - anywhere light and laughter meet.
What If My Kids Don’t Cooperate?
Perfect.
Because that means they’re being kids. Have you ever noticed the more you try to control the behaviour the worse it becomes...the mood shifts and everyone (especially mum and dad) end up resenting being there!
I’ve spent years working with children who’d rather be anywhere else, and I promise there’s nothing your child can do that will shock me.
I use gentle direction, play, and a lot of empathy.
When you let them be themselves, their personalities bloom on camera.
The meltdown, the tickle fight, the moment they hide behind your leg...all of that is real life.
And that’s what you’ll want to remember later.
How Many Photos Will We Get?
Every session includes a hand-edited gallery where you can choose your favourites. As I am a storyteller you will get well over 100 to choose from...this is how I photograph...every nuance and smile and mood shift...I love it all! But you get to choose how much of it you want to keep.
10, 15, or the full collection - it’s completely up to you.
Simple, transparent, and stress-free.
You’ll have the option to add fine-art prints or albums later, because photos deserve to live somewhere better than your computer's hard drive or the cloud.
How Far Ahead Should We Book?
A couple of months ahead is ideal - especially for weekend or golden-hour sessions.
If you’re dreaming of an autumn or spring shoot, now’s the time to reach out.
The Bottom Line
The best photographer for your family isn’t the one with the fanciest gear or the most perfect feed.
It’s the one who makes your kids laugh, makes you breathe easier, and reminds you what love actually looks like.
That’s my lane.
